You’re getting married! Congrats – the time is now for all the fun adventures that go into planning a wedding. From the ceremony to the reception, details rule – those thoughtful little touches that make something go from good to great, and make an event go from mass-produced to sweetly individualized. There’s no better way to make this magic happen than with something that is not only customized but also based on an experience. If you’re overwhelmed with options, don’t worry – Thirsty Buffalo Beverage Catering is here for your bar detail needs – the big detail that is often overlooked.
Sitting down with Jessica Judson, I got some inside information on why the bar is more than putting a tablecloth and an ice bucket on a table. “Planning your wedding can be stressful; we know this and this is the fun part,” said Judson. “We give our clients total confidence that we’re going to take care of them and their guests.”

And, care they take. It’s hard to focus in on one part of the meticulous detail Thirsty Buffalo offers, so let’s journey through the moment after the “Ah! I’m getting married!” shock wears off to the “Yikes! I have to plan a big party that is very us!” Clients can get in touch with Judson via their website or phone, and she suggests doing so as soon as you know. “We only have one Horse Trailer Mobile Bar,” (Yes, you read that right, and yes, it’s as cool as it sounds) said Judson, “so, if it’s booked, it’s booked.” That’s not to take away from any of the other experiences – if the trailer isn’t your thing, other bar options include a Barrel Bar, a Mini Bar and even a new Bicycle Bar, all vehicles for the high-quality experience that is Thirsty Buffalo. If your venue already has a bar for them to serve from, that’s great also!

“Bartenders interact with guests more than any other hired help. Service is everything to me. I want to create an experience for guests and have positive energy from that bartender,” said Judson. “Our bartenders go above and beyond, and personality is really important.” I’m sure we can all recall a wedding or event where the bartender was “just not that into” the job, and what a damper that puts on the evening. Judson and her husband have more than 40 years of service industry experience combined, and that results in this highly crafted adventure.
Wait! It’s not just about picking your vendor – and experience – what about offerings? Judson and team work with clients to customize every quote – whether that be simply hiring a bartender only, or crafting a customized cocktail menu. If you’re going the cocktail route, Thirsty Buffalo has a seasonal curated list of delicious cocktails. One of their favorite cocktails was created for a rehearsal dinner last year. It’s freshly muddled pineapple and jalapeno, mixed with cilantro syrup, tequila and double strained over ice. This customized margarita wasn’t only loved by the mother of the groom – who is a self-described anti-tequila person – but it’s headed to submission for a recipe book that Judson is excited to be part of. After the event, the recipe goes to the couple for memories and future use.
“Not only are special memories being created for the couple,” Judson said, “but when people come up to the bar to see a personalized cocktail menu and they say ‘The Nanny Cat, oh it’s Grandma!’ you’ve created something special for everyone involved.” Judson and team understand that every single detail matters when you’re setting up an experience.
And, if you’re getting married, you know that the experience might not be just a few hours one night – don’t worry, Thirsty Buffalo has you covered with “Drop & Go” Bars. “These are beautiful and delicious self-serve bars that we literally drop off and pick up at the end of the night,” said Judson. “You can choose from a coffee bar or mimosa and juice bar. Perfect for couples to enjoy with their wedding party while getting ready for the big day.” And, because Judson thinks of everything, for the clients who might not want liquor served – or a venue doesn’t allow liquor – they offer Thirsty Buffalo Cocktail Mixers. “These are seasonally crafted cocktail mixers which are added to bubbly to create a delicious signature drink.” I got a chance to try the Pumpkin Spice Batch this past fall, and let me tell you – that disappeared quickly in my house!
It’s important to note that Thirsty Buffalo is a dry bar – which means, you’re providing the alcohol. This allows you to create a custom menu, not limited to what they carry. The team works with you to determine how much alcohol needs to be purchased, and the extra goes home with you, which saves you from spending too much money on alcohol that is never consumed.
From the service to the cocktails, Thirsty Buffalo is using high-quality experiences across the board. For packages and pricing, or a free quote, visit ThirstyBuffaloBC.com or call 336.283.3174. Follow them on Instagram @thirsty.buffalo.
