Rated as one of the top three wedding venues in the Carolinas, the stunning Millennium Center in downtown Winston-Salem has hosted performances by mainstream musical artists and celebrities, local nonprofit fundraisers, and gorgeous weddings for more than 20 years. Gregory Carlyle, the founder of The Millennium Group, was struck by the former U.S. Federal Building’s charm when it was placed on the market in the early 1990s. After touring the building, Greg immediately realized its potential as an event center and began repurposing it after he purchased it in 1994. What exactly has earned The Millennium Center its esteemed reputation as a nationally recognized event venue? According to Greg, “The history and architectural detail of the building create a unique environment that seems to have broad appeal.” Beauty alone does not earn the venue its respect, however. Greg explains, “We have established our reputation by the commitment to exceed our guests’ expectations by always providing more service than promised.”
Greg entered the event planning industry after traveling throughout North America as a guest artist presenting hair and fashion shows. Having been exposed to the process of producing shows in venues of all sizes and notorieties, he fell in love with the idea of event planning, which was a dream that turned into quite a successful reality. While he was growing up in North Carolina, Greg’s father, who served in the Marines before becoming a minister, instilled in Greg the ability to improvise, overcome and to be of service to others. Due to the team’s commitment to client and guest satisfaction, the venue welcomes feedback to continuously improve their event planning process. The Millennium Center has more than 500 five-star reviews over the last 10 years. Greg can rest assured that an event has been a success after receiving a “thank you” note in the mail or reading a five-star review online, adding to the venue’s already astonishingly high ratings on Google.
To ensure that event guests are enjoying themselves, The Millennium Center is a full-service venue with staff members who observe their guests closely and anticipate their needs. Clients take full advantage of the venue’s catering and beverage amenities, as well as its remarkable décor. Wary of planning a wedding during the COVID-19 pandemic? The Millennium Center offers virtual meetings via email, phone, FaceTime and Zoom, as well as face-to-face meetings with facemasks. To ensure the safety of the wedding party and wedding guests, temperature checks, facemasks, gloves and enhanced cleaning procedures have become new practices adopted by the team. While weddings may be becoming a little smaller due to statewide mandates, wedding demand has not decreased for the venue. For couples interested in booking the venue for their weddings, Greg suggests that it is best to start the planning process 12 to 18 months in advance, depending on which season the wedding will take place in. Additionally, the venue’s 2021 calendar is starting to fill up with spaces reserved for corporations’ meetings and special events.
The Millennium Center team is well-versed in taking the inevitable stress of wedding planning off of the bride and groom’s shoulders. Equipped with bridal salons and groom rooms on all three floors of the venue, wedding parties can relax and enjoy the process of preparing for the ceremony without the hassle of commuting to the venue from a hotel or other nearby location after getting ready. While it may seem as though brides are usually the first ones to wig out on the wedding day, Greg has seen an increase in involvement from grooms and fathers of the bride in the wedding planning process through the years. With a dedicated and thorough event and wedding planning team, The Millennium Center ensures a stress-free experience for all.
